Air Line
Components
AIR LINE REGULATORS — Purpose: Used to individually adjust the air pressure and
maintain it at a level delivered to individual pumps.

All air-powered pumps are designed to work at a certain pressure. Most pneumatic pumps
will operate at pressures in excess of that recommended by the manufacturer of the pump,
but doing so can cause excess torque, force and wear. It can also waste compressed air.

The best operation and service life of the pump is attained by using the correct,
manufacturer's suggested pressure.

AIR LINE FILTERS — Purpose: Atmospheric contaminants (moisture, dust and pollutants)
are drawn into a compressed air system at the compressor intake. Additionally, sludge, oil
and foreign matter may be added to the air system by the compressor itself.
Contaminated compressed air can interfer with an air-driven device operation and damage it.

Compressed air filters,
installed upstream from the air-driven device, remove contaminants as
well as most water condensate from flowing compressed air.

Some applications require extremely clean compressed air, virtually free of oil aerosols,
vapors and hydrocarbons. In those cases, coalescing (oil removal) and absorbing (vapor
removal) filters are utilized.

AIR LINE LUBRICATORS — Purpose: Lubrication is something required by most moving
parts. Efficiency of cylinders, valves and air motors can be improved greatly if they are
supplied with the correct lubrication. The air line lubricator is a device used for adding
lubrication oil in aerosol form into a compressed air line.

Air traveling through the lubricator is deposited on moving and sliding surfaces, reducing
both friction and wear.

Most lubricators have a proportional oil delivery feature, automatically providing a nearly
constant oil-to-air ratio over a wide range of air flows.

Most manufacturers offer both individual air line components, or 'bundles' (i.e. a Filter
and Regulator or a Filter-Lubricator-Regulator).
