OPW CONTINUOUS VACUUM MONITORING SYSTEM (CVMS) — Type: Regulatory
compliance release addressing the California State Water Resources Board AB2481
regulation pertaining to requirements for continuous monitoring of contained areas for leaks.
The CVMS establishes a standard vacuum of 20" of water column within the interstice of
secondarily contained tanks, sumps and product lines. Even the slightest loss of vacuum
(in excess of an allowable limit) or the detection of liquid —hydrocarbon or water — will signify
the possibility of a leak and put the system into alarm condition. The system may also initiate
positive Submersible Turbine Pump (STP) shutdown as a result of a vacuum or liquid alarm
condition as required by local regulatory agencies.
Features: A primary feature of the
CVMS system is built-in diagnostics that allow the system to pinpoint the precise location
of a leak in the event of an alarm condition. The system pulls a smaller vacuum (-0.72psi) on
the containment system, thus the containment system is less prone to fitting failures
caused by the higher vacuum levels of competitive systems. The CVMS is less susceptible
to false alarms than brine systems due to changing environmental-influenced conditions on
tanks, sumps and piping. The system can operate as stand-alone or can interface with a
automatic tank gauge system. You are not restricted to having a specific tank gauge
system installed on site in order to meet regulatory requirements
