|We utilize the services of a multitude of
tank manufacturers for burial tanks, which
affords us the opportunity to query more
than one supplier. Underground tank styles:
•Single or doublewall.
•Single compartment ior multi-compartment.
While Mascott Equipment can provide tanks
for multiple applications, our predominate
underground inquiries are for petroleum
storage and oil/water separation.
Singlewall tanks, providing no containment
protection, are available in both steel and
fiberglass. With doublewall tanks, all steel
or all fiberglass construction is available, as
is what is referred to as a 'clad' tank.
A 'clad' tank utilizes a steel primary (content
bearing) tank with a non-steel secondary
tank. This style tank is more lightweight
than a doublewall steel tank and to many
provides the best of both worlds: the
structural strength of steel and the
corrosion protection of of a non-metallic
The three most common UL listing for
buried tanks are:
UL-58: For horizontal steel, atmopherically-
vented tanks and the storage of both
combustible and flammable liquids. These
include both singlewall and doublewall
tanks. Nor recommended in commercial,
large industrial or in retail applications.
UL-1316: Covers glass fiber-reinforced (FRP)
atmospherically-vented tanks containing
petroleum-based flammable and combustible
liquids. Includes both singlewall and
UL-1746: Tanks with this certification are
atmospherically-vented with pre-engineered
corrosion protection systems such as
factory-installed galvanic-type cathodic
protection, factory-assembled composite
systems, factory-assembled jacketed
systems and factory-applied coating
protection; such systems to be completely
installed at the manufacturing facility on
carbon steel underground tanks.
These specially-designed tanks separate
oil and grease contaminants from water.
These vessels are incorporated into water
drainage systems at lubrication and fueling
sites to address petroleum product spillage
onto concrete/asphalt that migrates to
water drainage areas.
These style tanks can be singlewalled or
doublewall, and can be constructed of
steel or fiberglass.
